A company event often asks music to do several jobs. Welcome people, leave room for conversation, support a program, and eventually give everyone a reason to celebrate.

Plan in chapters

Instead of one mood for the entire evening, divide the event into a few clear chapters: arrival, conversation or dinner, presentations, and celebration.

Note when the atmosphere should change. A good brief explains those transitions, even if the exact songs are still undecided.

Leave room for the conversation

During a reception or meal, guests may want to reconnect with colleagues they rarely see. Let your DJ know where conversation takes priority and where the venue’s quiet areas will be.

Share the program early

Speeches, awards, videos, and announcements all create practical questions. Who introduces each speaker? Who has the final schedule? Which microphones or audio connections are needed?

Confirm responsibilities and equipment with your venue and entertainment provider ahead of time. Don’t assume they are included.

Choose a tone, not just a genre

“Upbeat, familiar, and welcoming” is often a more helpful starting point than a genre alone. Share the audience, brand guidelines, language preferences, and any songs or themes to avoid.

Start a conversation about your event.
